Before going to bed Thursday night, I got a glimpse of the towboat, "Greenway", passing by our anchorage (we had passed him earlier in the day). What a beautiful night to be anchored! I don't know the last time I saw the amount of stars in the night sky as at our anchorage!
Sunshiny Friday morning! The fog surrounds the local fishermen.🌞
Soon we are back on the Tenn-Tom following "Eagle Heart".
All along the riverbanks, we see the trees covered in moss; I now know we are deep in the South!!!
Our first towboat of the day carrying scrap iron.
At mile 248.8, we are in for a treat; the spectacular White Cliffs of Epes. These cliffs are part of the Selma Chalk formations which were deposited at about the same time as England's famous White Cliffs of Dover.
A little more towboat traffic; this time we watch as the southern tow overtakes the northern one. Hey, wait a minute, how are we ever going to get by?!
While the banks on each side of the Tenn-Tom have returned to "normal", up ahead we see yet another series of cliffs. While these are not nearly as spectacular as the White Cliffs we saw earlier in the day, the are still impressively beautiful!
Other than the "looper" boats that you have seen on the blog, we haven't seen any other boats except for a few fishing boats here and there. So, this was a surprise; a speedboat towing a houseboat!
Ah, the "Greenway"! So, we passed this tow yesterday, it passed us when we were anchored last night (see first picture on this post), and now we have caught up to it once again! It's a tight corner, but Captain Dave safely passes!
We are now at mile 217.0 and believe it or not, this is a celebration point, as it is the end of the
Tenn-Tom Waterway!!! We have gone through a total of 45 locks, since leaving Prescott, to get to this point! Looking to our left is the Black Warrior River. So from its confluence with the Tenn-Tom, here to the Gulf Coast, we are now cruising the Black Warrior-Tombigbee Waterway;
only 217 more miles!!! 😁
Dave checks out the towboat up the Black Warrior River with his binoculars and finds out his name is "Mr. Dave"!😉
Only .8 mile, and we are at our spot for the next two nights; Demopolis Yacht Basin!
Excited to cool off in my private pool!😎
As I'm swimming around, I notice a familiar boat; "Rambunctious"! Walt and Midge have returned from their side trip, and will be joining us as we leave Sunday morning to head towards Mobile Bay. We will be in some very remote anchorages for the next two nights, so you may not see a post until the middle of the week.
We are spending the day today (Saturday), restocking our supplies. At the local Walmart Superstore they are WAAAAY ahead of the game; how strange to see this when I was just in an outdoor pool enjoying 94 degree weather yesterday!
Dave's excited about his new purchase; although he didn't know he'd have to put it together!😆
"The foot bone's connected to the ankle bone, the ankle bone's connected to the leg bone . . . 'dem bones, 'dem bones, 'dem dry bones"!!!🎵
See you soon from the Gulf Coast!!!😎
