Saturday, September 30 - Florence, Alabama

Spent the morning at Pickwick Marina enjoying more of the park by biking to the cabin and campground areas.  Saw "Kenney's" black Corvette at the nicest of all the cabins and told Dave that when we got back to the marina I would ask the ranger just who owns that "Bryant" boat (see yesterday's blog).  So, I first made small talk with Ranger Ron and then another gentleman came into the office looking for ice.  I got brave and asked about the owner of the "Bryant" and the gentleman asking for ice said it was his (awww, really? 😢); I told him he could be Kenny Chesney's twin, in which he replied that he gets that a lot when he wears the identical cowboy hat as him!!!😂

After a yummy, late-morning breakfast, we decide to meet up with our looper friends, Walt and Midge (they stayed one night with us in Pickwick Marina, - we had been with them since Hoppies - and then last night they went to Grand Harbor) and anchor out in one of the beautiful coves of Pickwick Lake.  After texting them, they told us since the marina they were staying at was so very nice, they had decided to stay another night.  Well, we decided very quickly that we would join them at that marina!  However, realizing it was Saturday night and seeing that there wasn't a lot of nightlife there, we put the boat on plane for about an hour through the lake, and then putted the rest of the way to Florence, Alabama, that has a larger downtown area (like Stillwater).

Today we went through three states in a three hour cruise:  Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama.  Here's our day in pictures:

Entering Pickwick Lake with 10 mph winds, it was our choppiest day on the water so far!

Checking out "Dry Creek" where we thought we were going to anchor; very pretty cove!

In "Dry Creek", pretty colors and rocky edges.

This is the beginning of the Tenn-Tombigbee Waterway.  We will get on this waterway in about a week.  For now, we're taking some extra time to explore the Tennessee River (and continue to go upstream!!!).  We wave goodbye to our looper friends, Walt and Midge, as they are at the marina to the right of the picture.  Safe travels, friends; we look forward to seeing you again!
Hello Mississippi!!!  This state park is the border of Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama!
Look how big the white house on stilts is, and then look at the red-roof condos; can't believe how tall the cement structure that is supporting those condos!

Reminds us of boating at home!💝

A big, beautiful waterway; time to put this vessel on plane!!!

Now that is one big wake!!!

Smart thinking; deck with a lift underneath for your boat!

We see only two towboats today.

This pipeline goes right to the towboat to supply it with cargo.

As we get close to our destination, this beautiful home is right across the river.

The same side of our destination is lined for a good mile with this beautiful park.

Florence Harbor Marina, our home for the evening!
