Friday & Saturday, September 15 & 16 - Still in Alton, Illinois

We've had a great few days in this fabulous town of Alton!  There were two festivals happening in town, so we took in some great live music.  Speaking of music, this town has A LOT of live music at many of their yummy restaurants.  Friday night we listened to two gentlemen who jammed on acoustic guitars, and then Saturday night we were entertained by three gentlemen at a piano bar; so much fun we didn't want to leave!  We also enjoyed doing some shopping in town, especially at the town's farmer's market.  Alton's marina is very nice and includes a pool and cafe, which we tried both and were very happy we did!  I forgot to take a picture of the pool, but it's on a floating barge next to the other slips; it was a little on the cool side, but with temperatures near 90, it felt VERY good! Here are some highlights from our great stay in Alton:

Sure seems like summer with the 90 degree temperatures, blue skies, and beautiful sunshine, but we are reminded that it is the beginning of fall.

WOW!  So cool to be in this very historic site!  Check out Dave moderating the debate between Lincoln and Douglas! 😁

You can pour yourself a glass of a microbrewery beer while waiting for your coffee at the
Alton Coffee and Brewhouse!πŸ˜‚

We took a bike ride along the levee of the Mississippi River.  When we stopped by to look closer at the Melvin Price Lock and Dam (just south of Alton-formerly known at Lock 26), we noticed that not only was there a museum to see, they were also giving tours of the lock!

Lock from the bike path.

Beautiful view of Alton's bridge from just outside the museum; on our way to view the lock!

Wait a minute . . . we're going to the TOP of that lock?!?!😨

Dave is VERY BRAVE to go near the edge!

WHAT A VIEW!!!
There are actually two locks here with a gate letting the Mississippi flow right between the two of them!

We get to see a northbound tow lock through!

Late night fun at the piano bar!

On our walk back to the boat, we saw some great pictures in lights!  Argosy is their floating casino.

BEAUTIFUL ALTON!πŸ’—
