BLOG Update: Our friend, Paul Ziemet, informed us this morning that the reason for the evergreen on top of the bridge is the iron worker's way of saying their part is complete! Thank you so much for your help with the blog, Paul! 😁
On to today's blog: Pulled up anchor at 8:40 a.m. The birds from the night before weren't sure if they wanted to join us or not!
This is a different kind of retaining wall!
Just a few miles past our anchorage, we come up to a railroad bridge and it doesn't look like we can get through! (Thank goodness for a small opening on the right!😉)
Could this be my lighthouse?!💟
Ever since we passed south of Dubuque, we haven't seen the bluffs anymore. Instead, just a very wide and beautiful waterway. It's such a nice, quiet, serene morning!
Then we look to our right and see a cell tower! It's just wrong!
Out of nowhere, we see this boat of people going in and out of the backwater brush. They had nets, too. Dave thought it might be some students from a local college doing some sort of testing/study.
Tony Guse and all of you duck hunting fans, everywhere we look, we see duck blinds! You would love to hunt in these FIXED hunting structures!
We get lucky entering Lock 18 at Gulfport, Illinois, as a tow is just pushing out! The tow is an older one with very sleek lines! This is our only lock for today.
For most of the trip we have had the lock to ourselves, but this time we get to share it with another tug!
As we shove out of Lock 18, we see that one of our pelican friends stopped by to say hi!😉
BURLINGTON, IOWA! We are half-way to the Ohio River!!! 🙌👏
Fort Madison, Iowa, where there is a prison, and an actual fort!
Could this be the warden's mansion?!
As we leave Fort Madison, we pass through a DOUBLE-DECKER swing bridge! Notice the cars on top!
"Hmmm", captain Dave says, "I think this tow boat wants to race!!!"
Of course, we won!😁
Our home for the night: Keokuk Yacht Club!💗⚓
