After a quick workout, we left Pettibone Boat Club in LaCrosse at approximately 8:30 for a full day of cruising.
Picture compliments of Darryl and Katie from "Bella Rumore"; it was so much fun visiting with our Miss Croix slip neighbors at Pettibone! |
Until next time, LaCrosse!💝 |
It is a VERY quiet day on the Mississippi! For the longest time we only see bird friends!
FINALLY, we see two other boats (I guess traffic on the Mississippi really changes after Labor Day)!
Passing by Brownsville, we see a marina with many boathouses.
We enjoy some Vitamin D on the bow of the boat, while Captain Dave drives with a wireless remote!
Keeping toasty warm thanks to Helen's slippers and Tammy's afghan; thank you, again, ladies!!!
As we cross the border into Iowa, we see many more fall leaf colors (maybe I brought this upon myself, as I was feeling just a little bummed that I would miss our beautiful fall color season😉)!
Soon we see the American Duchess up the Wisconsin Channel docked at Prairie du Chien.
Across the river on the Minnesota side is Marquette; anyone feeling lucky?!🤞
The river above Lock 9 near Lynxville, Wisconsin, gets so wide, it reminds me a little of Lake Pepin.
While in Lock 9, we meet these canoeists. They started at Lake Itasca, the headwaters of the Mississippi, and are planning to go all the way to the Gulf of Mexico!!!
Our final destination for the evening: Guttenberg, Iowa. This quaint town has a park built right on the waterfront levee.
Just as we get secured in the Guttenberg City Marina,
we see the excursion boat, America, going north.
After a short walk to town to enjoy a burger and cocktail, we come back to a beautiful moon and the American Duchess, yet again, coming south! What a great way to end a fantastic day of cruising!
Captain Dave stats: Since Prescott we have burned 120 gallons of fuel and traveled 190 miles. The current water temperature is a frigid 64 degrees . . . what da heck!!!
